At The Independent Theatre Workshop, we offer dynamic and intimate group singing classes for young adults, keeping the class sizes small to ensure focused and personalized instruction. For serious singers aged 16 and above, we highly encourage private lessons as they provide individualized attention and tailored guidance.
At this stage, the voice is approaching maturity, and it is an opportune time for serious vocal training. Our experienced teachers take great care in developing the upper and lower registers of the voice while educating singers on how to maintain vocal health. We place equal emphasis on classical repertoire, musical theatre, and pop, providing students with a well-rounded musical education that nurtures their versatility.
Private lessons are individually tailored to meet the specific needs of each student. They serve as an ideal platform for Leaving Certificate preparation as well as higher grades in the Leinster School. Our students consistently achieve high grades in their exams and have demonstrated remarkable success in Feisanna, often bringing home top awards. We take pride in their accomplishments and provide a supportive environment that encourages their growth and excellence.
Notable success stories among our students include Matthew Nolan, who was the recipient of the Leinster School of Music and Drama National Excellence Award for Music in 2022. In previous years, Clarice Makarevitch (2021) and Sarah Kelly (2018) also received this prestigious recognition. Sarah, having trained in Musical Theatre at The Royal Scottish Conservatoire, is now working as a professional performer in London.
At this level we have a wonderful Senior Musical Theatre Company who perform fully staged musical productions every year. A high level of commitment is required but the rewards are huge.
Our students have also had the privilege of performing regularly with Irish National Opera, Festival Productions, and Lyric Opera.
We warmly welcome beginners at this age and encourage them to join our group or private classes, depending on their goals and aspirations. Our instructors create a supportive and inclusive environment where beginners can embark on their singing journey with confidence and enthusiasm.
In addition to Leaving Certificate and exam preparation, we extend our support to fifth and sixth-year students who are interested in pursuing music and/or musical theatre at the university level. We provide specialised singing instruction to prepare them for auditions, equipping them with the necessary skills and confidence to showcase their talent and pursue their dreams in higher education. Our students have been very successful in securing places in top Musical Theatre Colleges at home and overseas including Arts Ed, Mountview, GSA, Central, Trinity Laban and Italia Conti and gone on to work professionally in the West End (inc, Phantom of the Opera, 42nd Street, Matilda, Waitress) and national and regional theatres.
At The Independent Theatre Workshop, we are committed to the holistic development of our students, nurturing their talent, and preparing them for the future. We understand the significance of tailored instruction, personalized guidance, and performance opportunities in shaping the musical journey of young adults. Join us and embrace the world of singing as you prepare for exams, auditions, and the exciting possibilities that lie ahead.
