Traditionally every year for the last 15 years or so we produce a shortened production of a Shakespeare Play with our Junior Shakespeare Company - often our Youth Theatre will also produce a Play and we perform for friends and family and often as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival in the UK.

This year we are bringing you a Shakespeare Festival on November 10th at The Sean O’Casey Theatre which will feature our Junior Company performing The Comedy of Errors and our Youth Theatre performing King Lear.

We will also be featuring many of the cast performing scenes from a host of Shakespeare Plays from Romeo and Juliet to Midsummer Nights Dream - a real feast of Shakespeare for all!!

Rehearsals are well underway at the moment with our dress rehearsals this coming week!

In preparation for our Junior Production we had the good fortune of being able to bring our cast to London to see The Comedy of Errors live on stage in Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre - it was a fantastic day!

We started off with a very early meeting at Dublin Airport at 5.00am - but everyone was in good spirits and couldn’t wait to get going! Upon arrival in London we grabbed some snacks and drinks and hopped on the train direct to Blackfriars where we had time to walk down the Thames towards The Globe, passing The Tate Modern and in to check out the Globe Shop where Plague Rat Puppets were the Must Have buys of the day!!

Before we knew it we were met by an Actor from The Globe who took us on an informative and interactive tour of Shakespeares Globe Theatre. We were fascinated to learn all about life in London during Tudor Times and how The Globe developed and the different people who would come to see his shows.

We loved seeing the ornate stage and hearing her stories and had plenty of questions and answers for her! All too soon we were whisked away to the Globe Rehearsal rooms in Bear Gardens for an hour long workshop on The Comedy of Errors. Here our cast were in their element and threw themselves into all the activities that were planned for them. All the while our proud teachers Josh, Jordan, Alicky, Gillian and Sabrina Rose looked on and the parents that had come spent an hour in The Tate Modern!

We then had time for a packed lunch and headed in to take our seats to watch the incredbile production of The Comedy of Errors by the Shakespeares Globe Company. Fast paced and full of hilarious moments we laughed and cheered the cast as they engaged and enthralled the whole audience! Such a treat! Such an inspiration to all our young cast members who loved hearing the lines they had been rehearsing and watching their counterparts in action on the Globe Stage.

Once the show was over we headed on a brisk walk along the Thames past The National Theatre to The London Eye where we were booked for a Scenic Cruise Tour of the Thames on a Riverboat! It was great to see the faces light up as we passed such landmarks as The Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, St Pauls Cathedral and Tower Bridge and even passing The Globe where we had spent most of the day! Lively commentary was provided by our Guide Josh who was full of stories and insights into London and it’s history.

Then it was time to head back to Blackfriars and get the train back to Gatwick where we descended on Nando’s for dinner - we chatted about all we had seen and done while tucking in to a feast of Nando’s Finest and bottomless drinks and then took our Flight home to Dublin - tired but exhilarated!!
